Philippine Anurans

The Philippines possess an amazing array of anuran diversity. Currently, there is a total of 109 anuran species described in the country, 91 of which are endemic (Diesmos et al. 2015). Many of the endemic anuran species are confined within single biogeographic regions, and some within a single island or one mountain massif. In addition, more species are waiting to be discovered and described as more surveys are conducted throughout the country.  However, the country’s anuran species is threatened by extinction mainly due to habitat loss and destruction, as well as climate change, and several more.
